About the Role

We are partnering with a growing mid-market technology consultancy to hire a Senior Data Engineer to join their Data & AI practice.

This role will see you working closely with clients to design, build, and deliver modern cloud-based data platform solutions, with a strong focus on Azure and Databricks environments.

You will play a key role in both hands-on delivery and client engagement, advising on best practices while leading end-to-end project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and deliver modern data platform solutions using cloud technologies
• Work directly with clients to gather requirements, scope solutions and provide technical recommendations
• Lead data engineering projects end-to-end, either independently or as part of a team
• Implement and optimise Databricks-based data solutions
• Support and enhance existing data platforms, identifying opportunities for improvement
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior team members
• Contribute to solution design, architecture patterns and best practices
• Deliver workshops and support clients in adopting new technologies

Key Skills & Experience

• Strong experience in Azure Data Engineering environments
• Hands-on experience with Databricks (essential)
• Exposure to Microsoft Fabric (highly desirable)
• Experience building and supporting modern data platforms (not legacy-only stacks)
• Strong understanding of data architecture, pipelines and cloud-based solutions
• Proven experience working in a consulting or client-facing environment
• Ability to scope, estimate and deliver projects in a commercial setting
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to stakeholders

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Background in mid-market / SMB consultancies (preferred)
• Experience delivering end-to-end solutions, not just contributing to a small component
• Strong balance of technical depth + commercial awareness
• Comfortable engaging directly with clients and leading discussions

Location & Working Model

• Sydney (North Sydney office)
• Hybrid: ~2 days onsite (flexible for strong candidates)
• Melbourne is considered a secondary location
